Louis Caravaque

(1684-1754)

Louis Caravaque was born and trained in France. He came to Russia in 1715 on the invitation of Peter I. Caravaque lived and worked in Russia for 40 years until his death in 1754.
The heritage of the artist is not studied yet. He painted portraits, landscapes, battle scenes; made sketches for tapestry manufacture, plafonds for palaces, etc.

Anna Petrovna (1708-1728), tsarevna, daughter of Peter I the Great and Catherine I. In 1725, she was married off to Grand Duke Golstein-Gottorpsky, in 1728 she gave birth to her only son, the future Emperor Peter III. About Elizaveta Petrovna see here.

Peter Petrovich (1715-1719), tsarevich, son of Peter the Great and Catherine I. In 1717, after abdication of his elder half-brother Alexis, he was proclaimed the heir to the throne. In the portrait by Caravaque he is depicted as a Cupid.

Nataly Petrovna (1718-1725), tsarevna, daughter of Peter the Great and Catherine I. In 1721 was proclaimed heiress of Peter I, but died in 1725.
